Getting Started with Overkot

Download & Launch

Head to the Download page and choose a published package. On Windows, run the installer and choose a folder your account can write to. Settings and caches stay in your account’s Overkot data folder.

Experimental Linux packages include DEB for Debian-based desktops, a pacman package for Arch and AppImage. Follow the commands beside your download. Prefer X11 with Soulframe in Wine/Proton, in borderless or windowed mode. Wayland, window-manager behaviour and real-game compatibility vary; Linux builds have experimental support.

Once installed, launch Overkot from your application launcher, or run your AppImage. The widget dock sits at your selected screen edge. The tray icon can restore the overlay when hidden.

First Launch & Game Detection

When Overkot starts, it will display a "Waiting for game" status. This means it's looking for a running Soulframe process.

To connect:

1. Launch Soulframe — make sure it's running in Borderless Windowed or Windowed mode (required for overlays to render on top).
2. Log into the game and enter the world.
3. Overkot will automatically detect the game and switch to "Connected!" status.

Once connected, Overkot refreshes your timers, standing and inventory tools. Map location uses the separate “Where am I?” screenshot flow.

First-use tutorials introduce the app and individual widgets. You can replay them from Settings. The startup reminder shows your configured shortcut for focusing the overlay.

Configuring Widgets

Overkot organizes all its features into individual widgets — timers, factions, map, and more — that you can add, remove, or rearrange to suit your playstyle.

To manage your widgets:

1. Press Shift + F1 to interact with the overlay, then click the Widgets icon in the edge dock.
2. The searchable Widgets picker opens. Type a widget name to find it, then use its toggle switch.
3. Enable the widgets you want. Their icons appear in the dock; click an icon to open or hide its panel. Avakot Market opens a separate browsing window.
4. To arrange panels, focus overlay interaction and hold Shift. Drag a panel or use its corner resize grip, then release Shift to align it to the grid.

Available widgets include:

• Boss Timers — World boss respawn countdowns
• Crafting Timers — Item crafting completion times
• Daily Affiliation — Daily affiliation progress with 16,000 cap
• Faction Standing — Faction standing progress bars
• Avakot Market — Browse trades, sell from inventory and manage your listings
• Group Finder — Find and create online groups
• Wiki Search — Search the Soulframe wiki
• Mini-Map — Interactive world map of Midrath
• Arena Checker — Arena status for your Glades session

Using the Edge Dock

In Settings → Overlay, choose Top, Bottom, Left or Right and enable auto-hide if you prefer. Drag widget icons along the dock to save their order. Click an icon to show or hide its attached or floating panel.

Press Shift + F1 to focus overlay interaction. Hold Shift to arrange panels on the layout grid; releasing Shift aligns moved floating panels. Drop a floating panel onto the dock to reattach it. Leaving overlay focus ends layout editing.

Auto-hide keeps the collapsed dock hidden while the game owns input. Reveal it with the interaction shortcut, or move to its screen edge during focused overlay interaction. Attached panels use the space released when it hides.

Shift + F2 hides or restores the entire overlay, including panels and alerts. Minimize uses the same hide state; the tray can restore it. Both shortcuts can be changed in Settings. On your first upgrade to the new dock, enabled widgets and saved positions remain, but panels start closed.

Boss Respawn Timers

The Boss Timers widget shows live countdowns for world boss respawn windows. When you defeat a boss in Soulframe, Overkot detects it and starts a countdown timer automatically.

Features:

• Each boss gets its own progress bar with remaining time.
• Timers count down in real time and persist between sessions.
• When a boss is ready to respawn, you'll see a "Ready" indicator.
• Enable alert popup and alert sound in settings to get notified when a timer completes.

If no boss timers are active yet, you'll see "No boss timers." This is normal — timers appear automatically as you encounter bosses in-game.

Crafting Timers

The Crafting Timers widget tracks all your active foundry recipes. When you start crafting an item in Soulframe, Overkot picks it up and displays a countdown with the item name and remaining time.

This works for all crafting durations — from quick 1-minute crafts to multi-hour overnight builds. Progress bars show completion percentage at a glance.

Like boss timers, you can enable alerts to be notified when a craft finishes, so you never leave a completed recipe sitting in the foundry.

Daily Affiliation & Faction Standings

Daily Affiliation shows a progress bar of how much daily affiliation you've earned toward the 16,000 cap. It updates in real time as you earn affiliation by playing. The remaining amount is displayed below the bar.

Faction Standing displays your current rank and progress with every faction at a glance. Each faction shows:

• Faction name
• Current rank number
• Standing progress bar (e.g., 41,200 / 50,000)

Both widgets update live — as you earn standing and affiliation in-game, the overlay reflects it instantly without opening any menus.

Interactive World Map

The Mini-Map widget opens a fully interactive map of the Midrath overworld. For a deep dive on this feature, see the Interactive Map Guide.

Quick overview:

• Zoom and pan the map freely to explore the entire world.
• POI markers show bosses, dungeons, vendors, resources, and more across 9+ categories.
• Where am I? — press F6 in Soulframe when prompted to locate yourself from a screenshot. This is a snapshot of that location, not continuous tracking.
• Ancestors — enable their markers to see approximate search areas.
• Use the Map Legend to toggle individual POI categories on and off.

Click the map widget to open it in a full-size window for easier exploration.

Inside a dungeon, Mini-Map switches to the current layout when available. The diagonal-arrow control opens a large transparent outline map over the game. Pan, zoom or fit while interacting; Escape returns input to Soulframe and preserves the view. Close returns to Mini-Map. Dungeon maps show the layout, without continuous player tracking or F6 position capture. See the dungeon map guide.

Group Finder

The Group Finder lets you find other players and form parties without leaving the game.

Setting Up Your Profile

1. Open the Group Finder and go to the Profile tab.
2. Connect to Soulframe and let Overkot look up your Envoy name from your player profile. If it is not available yet, wait for the connection to refresh.
3. Select your Primary Language and optionally a secondary language.
4. Choose your Region Preference if you have one.
5. Click Save Preferences.

Creating a Group Listing

1. Go to the My Listing tab and click Create a Listing.
2. Choose an Activity Type (Boss/Encounter, Farming, Quest, Exploration, Help, General).
3. Set a Goal describing what you want to do.
4. Choose your party size, up to four players including the host.
5. Submit — your listing goes live instantly.

Joining a Group

1. Go to the Browse tab to see all open listings.
2. Filter by activity type, language, or region.
3. Click Request to Join on a listing that interests you.
4. Wait for the host to accept your request.

The Group Finder uses real-time updates — new listings and requests appear instantly without refreshing.

Wiki Search

The Wiki Search widget provides quick access to the Avakot Wiki directly from the overlay.

Type any item name, enemy, location, or keyword into the search bar and results will appear in an embedded browser within the overlay. This means you can look up crafting recipes, boss strategies, or item locations without ever alt-tabbing out of the game.

Display Options & Customization

Open Settings (gear icon). The Appearance, Overlay, Widgets, Game files and Updates sections group the available options. Use Appearance to change:

• Background Opacity — Adjust how transparent the widget backgrounds are.
• Widget Outline Opacity — Adjust card outlines independently, including making them invisible.
• Theme — Choose Classic, Dark Mint, Midnight, Ember or High Contrast.
• Font Colour — Choose from Default, High Contrast, Soft, Amber, Cyan, Red, or Pink.
• Bar Colour — Same color options for progress bars.
• Font Opacity & Bar Opacity — Fine-tune text and bar transparency independently.
• Compact Bars — Shrink timer bars for a more minimal look.
• Hide Bars / Hide Countdown — Strip bars or countdown text entirely if you prefer a cleaner view.

Changes apply instantly so you can preview everything in real time.

Click-Through Mode & Hotkeys

The Click-through overlay setting is one of the most important features. When enabled:

• The overlay becomes transparent to mouse input — you can click through widgets to interact with the game underneath.
• The overlay stays visible as an informational layer.
• Press the Interact Hotkey (default Shift + F1) when you need to click the dock, attached panels or floating widgets. Returning focus to the game restores click-through.

You can also enable "Hide widgets when game closed" to automatically hide the overlay when Soulframe isn't running, keeping your desktop clean.

The visibility shortcut (default Shift + F2) hides or restores the full overlay. In an expanded dungeon map, Escape returns input to the game while preserving the visible map; press the interaction shortcut to use its controls again.

Language Settings

Overkot supports 12 languages. To change the language:

1. Open Settings.
2. Find the Language dropdown.
3. Select your preferred language — the entire UI updates instantly.

Supported languages: German (DE), English (EN), Spanish (ES), French (FR), Italian (IT), Japanese (JA), Korean (KO), Polish (PL), Portuguese (PT), Russian (RU), Turkish (TR), and Chinese (ZH).

Calendar & Midrath Clock

Enable Calendar and Clock in the Widget Picker. Browse dates to see ancestor encounters; choose whether to show Zenith’s daily offers. The separate clock shows Midrath time and the countdown to the next day or night. World Watch combines the clock and weather in one widget.

Use the calendar alongside ancestor map markers to plan when and where to look. Map search areas are approximate.

Temper Tracker

Enable Temper Tracker in the Widget Picker and connect to Soulframe. The tracker gathers tempers across your weapon inventory so you can see which weapons carry them.

Your selected view, search, filters, grouping, hidden controls and collapsed groups are saved between sessions. Wait for a fresh inventory update after changing equipment or reconnecting.

Export Your Equipped Build

Enable Build Exporter, connect to Soulframe and equip the loadout you want to use. Choose the export action to open a draft on avakot.build.

Review the imported equipment, tempers and stats before saving or sharing. If the app reports a partial import, some details need to be filled in on the build site.

App & Game Data Updates

On Windows, automatic updates are on by default. New versions download in the background and install when you quit Overkot. Open Settings to read the release notes or install and restart now. Turn off automatic updates for manual control.

Linux app updates are manual: install a newer DEB or Arch package using the commands on the download page, or replace your AppImage. Settings remain in your user data folder.

Game data updates are separate from installing an app version: map, calendar and equipment data can refresh automatically. Use the manual game data refresh in Settings when you want to check for newer data.

Avakot Market

1. Open Widgets, search for Avakot Market and enable it. Select the bag icon in Overkot’s dock to open Market.
2. Open Settings → Connections and connect your Avakot Account through browser sign-in at avakot.dev. Market’s Login and Sign up buttons open this same settings page. If your account was connected before this update, choose Reconnect once to approve Market access.
3. Browse sellers or buyers, search the catalogue, and filter or sort listings. Copy whisper prepares a message to paste into Soulframe chat.
4. To sell, complete the market’s Envoy verification and connect Overkot to the matching Soulframe character. Open Sell from inventory from the Market’s left sidebar, choose an eligible item, enter a price or leave it blank for offers, set the quantity, and select Publish listing. It uses your existing account connection.
5. Use My listings to change prices or notes, pause or resume offers, and close completed trades. Refresh after changes made on the website.

Equipped, installed, locked and already-listed copies are excluded from available stock. Trading happens in Soulframe; listings are only published or changed when you choose an action.

While Market is enabled and signed in, Overkot maintains your Online – In game market status, even with its window closed. Disable Market, sign out or quit Overkot to end automatic presence.

Manage the shared account connection in Settings → Connections. Disconnecting your account there also signs Market out. See the Privacy Policy for Market’s data flows.

Custom Game File Locations

Open Settings → Game files to see the log and screenshot paths currently in use. Choose Browse… or paste a path, then select Apply location. Select Soulframe’s EE.log for the game log, or the folder containing its Soulframe*.jpg screenshots.

Use automatic restores automatic detection. If no screenshot folder exists yet, take an F6 screenshot in Soulframe first. After changing its location, request “Where am I?” again.

Title Tracker

Enable Title Tracker in Add / remove widgets, then open its dock icon. The bundled catalogue includes 52 epithet challenges and is available offline. Connect to Soulframe for your character’s challenge progress; cached data is labelled when shown.

Search titles or requirements, show completed or incomplete challenges, and use the pin beside each title to keep several goals at the top. Your filters and pins are saved between sessions.

Use the eye toggle for a frameless view containing only your pinned titles. Use the slashed eye beside the first pinned title to restore the full tracker.

Inventory & EE.log Viewers

Enable Data – Inventory to browse your grouped inventory with readable item names. Search for an item, expand its details or refresh manually. Saved inventory remains available when you are offline.

Enable Data – EE.log to inspect the game log. Search messages, filter by severity, expand message details and choose newest-first or oldest-first ordering. Change the log location in Settings → Game files if automatic detection needs help.

Tips & Best Practices

• Use Borderless Windowed mode — Exclusive fullscreen prevents overlays from rendering. Borderless Windowed gives you the same visual experience with overlay support.
• Choose your update mode — Windows automatic updates are on by default. Linux packages are updated manually.
• Arrange your dock — Drag icons to reorder them. Focus overlay interaction and hold Shift to move or resize panels.
• Enable timer alerts — Turn on both popup and sound alerts in settings so you never miss a boss respawn or finished craft.
• Set up your Group Finder profile early — Having your language and region set means better matchmaking when you browse groups.
• Locate yourself when needed — Use “Where am I?” again after travelling to update the map position.
• Minimize to tray — Overkot can run from the system tray. Right-click the tray icon for quick controls without opening the full window.
